[Interviewer] What was your favorite New Year's?
New Year's sucks!
New Years, favorite New Year's?
Oh, I've had some good ones.
I have so many different New Year's Eves
where some of them, I mean, the greatest one was 1999,
where we were on Sydney harbor on a boat.
We were making Moulin Rouge.
[Interviewer] Oh, wow. So, we had Baz
had sort of designed the whole party and we had literally,
it felt like we'd invited all of Sydney.
And it was, it went off.
[Interviewer] [laughs] I mean, it was,
it's one of the most legendary parties,
[Interviewer] if I say so myself. [laughs]
I remember dancing in some little tiny Dolce dress.
I was very much into the role of Moulin Rouge at the time.
[Interviewer] With a snake. [laughs]
That's all I'm gonna say.
Favorite New Year's.
[Interviewer] That you spent
doing something exotic or not.
You know what?
I would've been 15 and I was linking back up
with a friend from elementary school
that I hadn't seen in a long time,
and my sister was at a very cool
New Year's Eve party in New York
at like, some sort of club or something.
Somewhere that at 15,
I shouldn't have been able to be inside of.
And some folks got me and this buddy
that I'd relinked with from elementary school in.
So, that very much felt like a night,
a New Year's Eve where we were
not supposed to be where we were,
and that's probably the best New Year's Eve memory I have.
A few years back, I made, like,
all of us do a big murder mystery night
and we all went out to my friend's house in Sussex
and we all dressed up and there was like,
20-something of us did this giant murder mystery night
and that was really, really fun.
[Interviewer] And you, like, had,
one of you was like Clue?
Was one of you dead? Yeah, I was, yeah.
I was the inspector.
So, all the girls were dolled up,
but I had, like, a mustache and stuff like that.
But I made everyone do accents
and everyone really jumped into creating a character.
These are not film, my friends aren't in the,
well, a lot of them are crew members,
but none of them are actors and a lot of them
really delved into their character and did.
Some of my friends did the most flawless accents ever.
I was like, it took me years to do an American accent
and you're English and doing
a perfect Southern American accent.
Yeah, it was very fun.
I do a ritual every New Year's now,
where I go with my closest friends in England
and we write down all the things that we want to,
we write down all the things
that have happening in the last year
or all the things that we want to let go of,
all the things that we need to clear out.
We write them all down and we go
up to the top of Primrose Hill,
which is in a beautiful place in London,
[Interviewer] and we burn the paper. Really?
Yeah, all the things that we want to let go of
to allow in what we want for the next year,
whether it's for us or each other or the world or whatever.
It's an old, like, ancient, indigenous ritual.
[Interviewer] I love that ritual.
So, that's my New Year's now.
[Interviewer] That's great. Yeah.
There was one amazing New Year
where I was in Hawaii with my mother
and a very close person in my life
and we were on the, we were just kind of stood on the,
and all of my other family had gone to sleep
and we were stood on the coastline
where the ocean meets the sand.
It was just us, the three of us,
and it was the most intimate New Year's moment
and it was very, very beautiful
with two people that I love very much.
Under, you know, the magic of Hawaii as well.
Anyway, yeah, so I've had very, like,
nice, beautiful, calm New Year's.
But any wild, like, wild New Year's?
Not worth telling.
Two parties ago, I hired
a witch to give readings at my party
[Interviewer] and that was very popular. I bet.
I set her up in my garage and then there was a line
out the back, through my backyard
of people trying to get in there to get a reading.
And she was doing it for hours,
all night until four in the morning.
The biggest thing she told me
was that there were a lot of spirits in my house
and they were attaching on to me
and that I needed to wash myself
with Grandpop's soap every night.
Last year, I was, last year, yeah.
Last year, I was at Disneyland.
But we went home before it was midnight.
I got too tired.
So, then we ate Chinese food and watched it on my couch.
[Interviewer] Oh. Yeah, it was great.
[Interviewer] So, you didn't make it to midnight?
I did make it to midnight, yep.
We watched the TV and it was like, ten, nine,
and I was like, alright this is great.
And then I was like, Happy New Year, guys..
This is alright, this is gonna be a crazy year.
That was the thing that hit me the most.
I was like, wow.
I have a lot to do.
I have had some wild New Year's.
I don't know if I can talk about them on TV.
[Interviewer] But when you ask Peter So, you're
a person who likes New Year's?
[Interviewer] Do you like New Year's?
I don't mind it.
I don't like to be in the city and like,
drunk on New Year's, but I know I'm not alone in that.
But next time you interview Peter,
you can see if he'll, [laughs]
if it's okay with him, he can tell you the story
of us in Italy before we had kids
on New Year's in this wild hotel.
[Interviewer] That sounds good.
We had kind of a wild New Year's.
[Interviewer] That sounds, I'll definitely ask him.
Ask him and if he's up for it, it's fine by me.
[Interviewer] That sounds really good.
New Year's Eve now are much calmer.
[Interviewer] Were you with-
And I want to spend them with my kids and my husband.
Mostly, I try and stay alive, 'cause it's just a tendency
to drink a lot and lose yourself.
But like, I try not to do it in London now.
We try and go away.
[Interviewer] You try and go away for New Year's?
We try and go away.
There's a big group of us, actually, that blows this.
Like, a big group of us went to Brighton
and we just had a house and we just walked on the pier
and there was like, bagpipes and stuff.
And then we just followed people with bagpipes
and it's like, done us on the street on New Year's.
And then I spent one New Year's in Denmark.
[Interviewer] That's fun. In Denmark?
Yeah, I've got family out there.
But I try not to, I'd rather just go away
and then just have this moment away.
But it's always an anticlimax, you know?
The party of January 1st is fun, though.
[Interviewer] The Boxing Day party?
Yeah, it's just a, I dunno,
I always have, like, a good party,
'cause there's no pressure on the party.
[Interviewer] [laughs] And no one has work
the next day, so everyone's still happy.
I'm not a big, like a clubber
or I love parties and these types of things.
I like relaxed, like, I like to be with people
that I like and love and eat good good
and have some nice music in the background.
But I don't, like I don't have
an exceptional one that I can tell you.
I'm not an exciting person.
