Hi, I'm Madeline and I'm the singer of the Cults.
Hi, I'm Brian, and I play guitar in Cults.
We definitely didn't say one day
we're gonna start a band and it's gonna be a rock band
and this is what our, you know, image is gonna be.
We were both tired of writing essays
and working boring stupid internships,
filing papers for people.
When people started paying attention to it,
it was really bizarre, I was actually sleeping
through class and then I woke up and I had 25 text messages
and, like, 10 missed calls from Madeline.
I was, like, from the moment we got posted
on (mumbles) does this mean I can quit school (laughs)?
Yeah, we were scratching the chalkboards
of our respective institutions.
It was, I don't know, I mean art school is tough.
It's grating on your soul.
I mean instead of creating, you're critiquing,
which is really hard for me to do,
so it was but, you know, it was a good thing.
I mean we're happy now (laughs).
Yeah, totally (laughs).
(audience cheers and applauds)
