Gigi Hadid Only Gets Starstruck for Kobe Bryant

Supermodel Gigi Hadid is a huge Lakers fan, and a huge fan of birthdays. So for her 13th birthday, her parents took her to a game — and she had purple and yellow braces to match for the occasion. When she finally met Kobe Bryant at a Taylor Swift show years later, she was speechless. 00:03
I think my first campaign was when I was two,
00:06
and I don't remember this,
00:08
but the night before my first shoot,
00:10
I cut my own bangs, like this, like this short.
00:15
So in my first Baby Guess campaign,
00:17
I'm wearing a bandana.
00:18
Yeah, my first billboard was above a
00:23
Coffee Bean, across the street from the Beverly Center,
00:26
and there's a picture of me when I'm like five, like
00:29
and for my first billboard [laughs].
00:31
Now when I see myself on a billboard,
00:32
I like can't even go near the block,
00:34
like I get hot sweats, and I like can, so.
00:38
I just ask my friends to send pictures for me,
00:40
cause I can't go anywhere near it.
00:42
I was obviously doing everything that everyone does,
00:44
all the crazy long castings, and go sees in weird places
00:48
in dungeons in the middle of London,
00:50
where you don't know where you are.
00:52
There was one point where my agent called me,
00:54
and he said Carine Roitfeld wants to meet you.
00:58
And I said, are you sure she said the right name?
01:01
Cause like, I don't, you know,
01:03
I have boobs and a butt and whatever.
01:06
But that's when I shot the Tom Ford campaign
01:10
later that month, and that's where it started for me.
01:13
It's funny, because obviously, I'm not the best
01:15
on the runway, okay everyone, we did it!
01:17
Gigi said it, I know it.
01:20
But what do you do?
01:22
I never was taught how to walk on the runway.
01:24
No one ever...
01:25
And maybe that's because it moved really quickly for me,
01:28
that people just assumed that that was something I knew,
01:30
so I'm working on it.
01:32
I went to prom all four years.
01:33
But my senior year,
01:35
I wore
01:37
a red
01:39
Herve Leger dress, but it wasn't the normal bandage.
01:42
It was the one where they had the short sleeves
01:44
and a beautiful braided neckline and stuff, so.
01:48
I loved it, it was red, bright red.
01:50
My first kiss was
01:52
at my friend's house.
01:54
We were watching a movie,
01:56
and I wanna say it was a horror movie, I can't remember.
01:59
I was with the guy that I liked.
02:02
I was like fourteen or fifteen.
02:05
We both had braces, and we...
02:09
I think, my friend and her, the guy that she liked,
02:12
like left the room.
02:13
So we just had our first kiss,
02:16
and it was horrible and awkward.
02:18
And, you know, lots of metal
02:20
[woman in background laughing]
02:20
happening [laughs].
02:22
Yeah, I was happy to wait a while til our next kiss.
02:25
I think it was more just about the first kiss thing
02:27
than like I actually wanted to kiss him all the time, but.
02:31
I love birthdays, love birthdays.
02:36
I think it was my 13th birthday.
02:37
I'm a huge Kobe Bryant, Lakers fan,
02:40
and so for my 13th birthday,
02:41
my parents brought me and some friends to a Laker game,
02:44
and I got to wear
02:46
a yellow and purple wig, my braces were yellow and purple.
02:51
I had my whole Kobe uniform on
02:53
that I wore to school all the time.
02:54
I played basketball with the boys at lunch every day.
02:57
And I had a Kobe Bryant cake.
03:01
I met Kobe
03:03
last year at Taylor's show in L.A.,
03:07
and like, I couldn't even talk.
03:09
Taylor was like, go over, say hi,
03:11
and I'm like, I'm literally shitting myself, I can't.
03:14
Like Kobe Bryant's the only person, one of the only people,
03:16
that I get starstruck around.
03:17
But his whole family's so nice,
03:19
and I don't get as nervous around them.
03:20
So I usually talk to them,
03:21
then I feel like I kinda know Kobe a little bit, you know.
03:24
[woman in background chuckling]
03:25
I have so many girl crushes, like it's actually insane,
03:28
but I think Rihanna.
03:30
Everyone says Rihanna? Yes.
03:32
Okay, then Beyonce.
03:33
I feel like Beyonce just has a beautiful presence.
03:36
I mean, you obviously see her on stage,
03:38
and she's
03:40
Beyonce.
03:42
And then, like in person, she's just,
03:45
she's quiet and shy and classy and beautiful and calm.
03:49
How can someone just turn from such, like, an angelic being,
03:54
like floating through a room,
03:56
and then just be such a powerful force on stage?
03:59
My mom gives really good advice.
04:01
She said, you know, when you start working,
04:04
you better be the most hardworking,
04:05
nicest person in the room, because if you're not,
04:08
then there's always gonna be someone prettier, nicer,
04:11
and more hardworking [laughs].
04:13
It's always a first impression,
04:14
and I think that that's the thing
04:15
I mostly just try and remember,
04:18
is that you have to give your energy for that time,
04:21
because it's the time that counts,
04:22
and that's how the person's gonna remember you.
