Thinking who is that guy?
00:01
He's so cool.
00:03
And is that a job or is he really that person?
00:05
Or is that actually, is that a job?
00:07
And then seeing Ferris Bueller's
00:08
and seeing a boy drive my favorite car in the world,
00:11
having the day off school.
00:12
Then I realized that that was
00:16
a job
00:17
that you could do and earn a living from.
00:24
I had a poster of a Ferrari Testarossa,
00:28
a Porsche 911, and a Lamborghini Countach,
00:32
and then Cindy Crawford.
00:33
[Lynn] So that was three cars. Three cars.
00:34
That's three cars and Cindy, yeah.
00:36
[Lynn] But what do you drive now?
00:39
An old Austin Healey that's like,
00:40
it's an Austin Healey Sprite.
00:42
It's like a miniature version of that Ferrari California,
00:44
so when I originally had one, about 10 years ago,
00:47
it was my pretend being Ferris Bueller.
00:49
And the car to getting out would be a,
00:52
is the car that the guy, Magnum,
00:53
Magnum is what I used to watch, I used to love.
00:55
That was the American show
00:56
that I really enjoyed,
00:57
[Lynn] Magnum, P.I. Magnum, P.I.
00:58
Those Ferraris, that's what,
00:59
you know, they look like a piece of cheese.
01:01
They look really cool now.
01:03
I always loved them, they were my favorite.
01:04
And what other shows did I like?
01:06
[Lynn] What was your first-- Oh and Twin Peaks,
01:07
Twin Peaks was my--
01:09
The original Twin Peaks had a peculiar
01:11
Memphis Belle girlfriend, arm around the neck,
01:15
used to dress me up as sort of a,
01:18
I wanted to be a businessman in a shirt (laughs).
01:20
I used to dress up in a suit and a tie
01:22
and sit behind a desk with a pretend telephone,
01:25
because I thought that was cool,
01:26
[Lynn] with my picture of How old were you--
01:27
my Ferrari behind me and Cindy
01:29
(laughs)
01:30
and with a pretend keyboard,
01:32
'cause we didn't have computers then.
01:34
I don't know, I may have been about 18. (laughs)
01:36
She didn't really like that persona.
01:38
So then, I think she wanted me to be thingy from The Cure.
01:44
[Lynn] Robert Smith?
01:45
Robert Smith.
01:46
So she back-combed my hair, put me in makeup,
01:50
but I still looked too young to get into
01:52
the local night club,
01:53
so then she'd dress me in girls clothes
01:56
and I would get into the night club.
01:58
But then I started quite liking that.
02:00
And that actually felt more cool than being a businessman.
02:03
Preacher came about
02:04
looking for something at that time that was different
02:09
[Lynn] and getting a bit uninspired. Produced by Seth.
02:13
Seth Rogen, yeah, was the creator of--
02:17
Seth Rogan and Evan, his producing partner,
02:19
they'd been trying to adapt this comic book
02:21
into a show for years and years.
02:22
The comic book, I'd heard of it.
02:24
I wasn't really a comic kid,
02:26
but I always remember there was always a comic brother.
02:30
Everyone always had a brother who wore leather jackets
02:32
and had a lot of piercings
02:33
and we'd only s-- (laughs)
02:34
wouldn't ever come out of their bedroom.
02:36
And I remember we used to break into that
02:37
particular boy's bedroom
02:38
and I remember seeing that as a kid.
02:40
I saw one of the front covers,
02:41
which is so beautifully illustrated,
02:46
and I saw this head looking back at me
02:49
from one of the comics
02:50
and I recognized the sort of demonic, demented,
02:55
psychotic person staring back at my face,
02:57
and thought, I recognize him. That's sort of myself.
03:00
I met Seth.
03:01
He had huge hair at the time and a massive beard.
03:04
And there's smoke everywhere.
03:05
And he was trying to explain to me the show
03:07
that they were gonna make,
03:08
they thought maybe I'd be great at,
03:10
that was gonna be about people with just arseholes as faces
03:14
and people that would just sort of eat,
03:17
just sort of have sex with meat,
03:19
and I was sitting here going, Yeah, no.
03:22
I'm not sure I want anything to do with this.
03:24
This is not for me, thanks.
03:26
But actually afterwards, I'd obviously smoked,
03:28
inhaled so much of what they were having
03:30
that I was mesmerized
03:31
and yeah, I signed up straight away. (laughs)
03:34
And I'm not regretting it.
03:36
I hate birthdays.
03:37
It's just this pressure of it being good
03:40
or it be, or having--
03:42
I was thinking about it on the plane, 'cause
03:43
I'm about to have a big one.
03:45
Not a party, it's just a big birthday,
03:46
and it's actually terrifying me.
03:48
It's really soon, it's really soon.
03:50
[Lynn] Are you gonna have-- I've done nothing
03:51
to prepare for it.
03:52
It's probably the day I finish the job,
03:53
so I'll just be finishing landing
03:55
at five in the morning in London, it'll be raining,
03:57
and I won't have organized anything,
03:59
and nah, yeah, that'll be it.
04:01
My first kiss?
04:03
Well, it was either...
04:05
Oh no, I mustn't say that.
04:06
The romantic version is,
04:08
in a beautiful place called the Secret Garden
04:12
in Greenwich Park, with a few people,
04:13
which is just below the Meridian line and where time began.
04:18
[Lynn] Wow. That sounds quite good,
04:19
doesn't it?
04:20
But the reality was in the cinema with Memphis Belle.
04:25
This will show, this shows one's age.
04:28
I think Memphis Belle was what we were watching
04:30
and that terrible pain of sitting through a movie
04:32
for at least an hour
04:33
before you manage to put your arm round the back
04:36
and over the shoulder
04:38
and lurch over.
04:40
Oh, God, it's still painful.
04:42
So I don't know whether that was really a kiss.
04:43
That may have just been a rejection.
04:45
This is so awful.
04:46
I mean, not the kiss, just the whole,
04:48
the lead up, the pain, the pain,
04:51
the pain of getting the arm over. (laughs)
04:53
The pain of getting me leg over.
04:54
(laughs)
04:56
So I'm gonna stick with the Secret Garden in Greenwich Park.
05:02
[Lynn] And how was that kiss?
05:04
Heavenly.
05:05
[Lynn] Oh good!
