The best encounter that I had was
00:02
I was getting a bikini wax,
00:04
and my waxer was talking to me about the show.
00:07
(laughing)
00:09
And how much she
00:13
was loving it.
00:15
I'm like, great!
00:17
I'm really glad.
00:19
I'm literally laying there, facing the ceiling
00:23
and she's deep in my bikini area
00:26
and I'm talking about The Alienist.
00:36
I am a big TV fan.
00:38
I like, cherish my time watching TV,
00:42
and it's just like, when I zone out.
00:44
I like The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,
00:46
The Real Housewives of New York,
00:49
The Bachelor and the Bachelorette.
00:50
High, high drama, especially the last Bachelor was -
00:53
(woman mumbles in background)
00:55
high, high drama.
00:56
Some of the best TV I've ever seen was the breakup.
00:58
That Arie and Becca breakup.
01:00
Good riddance to Arie, is all I have to say.
01:04
I do prefer The Bachelor, 'cause I like seeing
01:07
the dynamics of all the girls interacting with one another.
01:11
You just have to wait so long for the like, gross guys to go
01:16
You gotta get past all like the pool parties
01:18
and the oily chests.
01:20
They're either bad actors, or the best actors
01:23
in the whole world.
01:24
That's what I'm still trying to figure out
01:26
with all reality television.
01:28
It's like, how real is it, is always the question.
01:31
But, if it is kind of set up, then they're
01:34
the greatest actors in the world.
01:36
We shot The Alienist in Budapest, Hungary.
01:39
[Woman] Wow, so you were there a long time?
01:41
I was there for almost seven months.
01:43
[Woman] Oh my word.
01:44
Yeah, and it became like, my home.
01:47
I sobbed hysterically when I had to leave.
01:50
I didn't get quite as attached to the corset.
01:52
I fainted in my first fitting.
01:54
[Woman] Really?
01:55
So I had kind of just gotten off the plane,
01:57
and you know you're sort of like, swollen,
02:00
and tired, and jet lagged, and all of that,
02:02
and I went straight to the studio,
02:04
and straight to my fitting.
02:05
And they put the corset on, and I, yeah,
02:07
I was like, I'm going down.
02:10
I'm going down. (laughing)
02:12
I had to sit, and then they would try and be like,
02:15
okay, are you alright now?
02:16
I'd be like, nope, nope, still gotta sit.
02:18
(laughing)
02:19
But then you get used to it.
02:21
Your body just completely adjusts.
02:22
It's so weird.
02:23
By the end, I was just snapping it on, snapping it off.
02:26
It was like second nature (laughs).
02:29
[Woman] What was the first album you ever bought?
02:32
God.
02:33
Probably like, Britney Spears.
02:36
I was a huge Britney Spears fan.
02:37
She was the first famous person I ever met.
02:40
I met her when I came to California,
02:43
I was six, and I was with my mom,
02:47
and my mom's sister, in Fred Segal,
02:50
and um, Britney Spears walked in to the shoe department.
02:54
And I had the total classic starstruck
03:00
as a six-year-old moment.
03:01
She was in kind of a fur, furry coat,
03:04
and sunglasses, and one of those, like,
03:08
kind of newsboy hats.
03:10
I'll never forget it.
03:12
For the I Am Sam premiere, I wore a champagne satin dress
03:20
that had little, like, cap sleeves and a bow,
03:26
and I think it was from Neiman Marcus.
03:28
I had a purse that was from Target
03:31
that was a black patent, it was shaped like a present,
03:36
and it was black patent,
03:37
and champagne ribbon that matched the dress.
03:43
[Woman] Wow.
03:43
That was my purse.
03:44
When I did interviews, I just was saying like,
03:47
thank you the whole time, I didn't know what else to say.
03:50
People were like, talking about it,
03:52
I was like, thank you, thank you.
03:54
And I remember there was this woman,
03:57
there was this woman at the premiere, and she was like,
03:59
well, seems like all she knows how to say is thank you.
04:02
And I was like, and I overheard her say that,
04:04
and I was like, well,
04:07
there's worse things to say than thank you, right?
04:10
(woman laughs)
04:11
[Woman] What was your favorite Halloween costume?
04:12
It was Scarlett O'Hara.
04:13
I had the green curtain dress made.
04:17
[Woman] Really?
04:18
And it was so amazing that I wore it two years in a row.
04:20
I had the hat with the fringe, I had the wig,
04:22
I was on a set at the time.
04:24
And so the hair person that was working on the movie
04:29
fixed my wig for me, and it was such a great costume
04:33
that, yeah, it had to be worn twice.
04:35
[Woman] Did you have a favorite toy growing up?
04:37
The dolls that look like real babies,
04:41
that are for collectors or,
04:48
and they, like, some of them breathe,
04:50
and their skin is made of silicone,
04:53
and it has like, little skin.
04:55
I liked stuff that looked real.
04:56
I didn't like toys, I liked real, like things.
05:00
Like I didn't like pretend bottles for dolls,
05:02
I wanted like a real bottle.
