Lynn Hirschberg asks Richard Gere which celebrity makes him swoon.
Released on 1/2/2013
You know, I hate to say this,
and I'm trying to edit myself,
but I remember when I was growing up
is when TV started,
so the early 50's, I was born in '49.
So, the movies that you saw on TV
when you came home from school
were these really horrible badly dubbed
Italian muscle movies,
and I remember Steve Reeves, you remember him?
Steve Reeves was a muscle guy,
and an athlete,
but he was like the Clint Eastwood of his day.
Instead of doing Westerns he was doing these kind of
mythical muscle movies from Bible stories
and Greek myths, and that kind of stuff,
and there was something about those movies
that I found incredibly transporting.
There was no one on the planet,
probably men or women that didn't have a crush
on Julie Christie.
I mean, this was Darling,
this was Far From The Maddening Crowd,
it was Dr. Zhivago, it was,
the women of that time,
and Julie Christie clearly spoke to our world.
It was a thing she had that is undeniable.
It's the lips.
[Female] It's the lips.
Yeah, it's the lips.
