[Interviewer] So, let's talk about Prince
00:01
because you have a great Prince story.
00:06
I was out at this club called Nell's
00:08
on 14th Street in New York,
00:10
dancing with my friend.
00:12
All of a sudden there this littler person [laughs]
00:17
that came and started dancing with me.
00:21
It was like, "Oh, that's Prince, so cool."
00:25
Then cut to, I don't know, not that long afterwards
00:29
someone was like,
00:30
"Do you know Prince wrote a song about you?"
00:32
And it's on the black album which I still have.
00:35
It had a song on it called Cindy C.
00:37
[Interviewer] It's pretty amazing to
00:38
Yes, and I now I know what was going through his mind
00:40
as we were dancing. [interviewer laughs]
00:42
I saw him, maybe, a month and a half ago
00:45
at a Warriors game.
00:47
He came in and they were like,
00:49
"Ladies and gentlemen, Prince."
00:50
He came in and he had on, I want to say it was like,
00:53
a purple ice skating suit or something.
00:56
With the collar zipped all the way to the top.
00:58
He had on these, like, peacock green heels.
01:03
He came in with his cane and he sat down.
01:05
He looked out the side
01:06
and he looked out the other side.
01:07
Prince does this thing, he has this smile
01:09
that let's you know he's in on the joke,
01:11
he knows, you know what I mean?
01:12
Yeah, he's fly, he's cool,
01:13
but he also knows he's performing.
01:14
He knows that you know it.
01:15
The energy, like, he just emanated
01:20
it permeated everything he did.
01:22
His persona, his music,
01:25
the way he dressed, the way he looked,
01:27
the way he spoke, he was just
01:30
[Interviewer] He was an artist.
01:31
Yeah, he was a genius.
01:33
Two years ago I was Prince for Halloween.
01:36
I went and got, I had everything.
01:38
It was so much fun picking it out.
01:40
I mostly wore women's clothing.
01:42
I took a women's lace shirt and cut it up
01:46
in all types of pieces and ended up
01:48
wrapping that around my forehead
01:51
and then around my sleeves.
01:54
There's was just lace popping out of every crevice
01:56
of whatever I was wearing.
01:58
[Interviewer] Did you feel differently
01:59
when you were Prince?
02:00
Did it change your mood as yourself.
02:02
It didn't so much change my mood
02:04
as the people around me.
02:07
I felt like I was more accessible
02:09
to a number of people that I wasn't in the past.
02:13
[interviewer laughs]
02:14
One of my best friends, Chloe,
02:16
when she first heard I had never heard of Prince,
02:20
she played me Purple Rain whilst doing
02:22
an interpretative dance to it.
02:25
Really, really, loud.
02:27
She just blared it on the turntable
02:28
and then started, kind of,
02:30
you know, all of this was happening.
02:33
I was like, "Wow."
02:34
If Prince can make you do that,
02:36
Prince has power, so much power [laughs].
02:39
I've luckily, luckily, was able to,
02:41
I saw him a couple times.
02:44
One time I met him.
02:45
We went to a show in L.A. a small show.
02:48
Afterwards, I got to go backstage
02:50
and talk to him for a little bit.
02:52
[Interviewer] Was he nice?
02:53
The nicest guy in the world.
02:54
The nicest guy in the world.
02:56
Really sweet, very softspoken, but just kind.
02:59
Had no air of pretentiousness about him
03:00
or anything like that.
03:02
You just walk away being like,
03:03
"Man, Prince is awesome."
03:05
[laughing] Prince is cool as hell.
