[Narrator] To work on a story like this
00:02
is always very exciting for, for all of us.
00:08
I think think that working in this way,
00:11
just going somewhere and trying to uncover things,
00:16
is, is a luxury that, at W, you know, it's something
00:20
that's very much a part of our magazine,
00:22
and will always be a part of our magazine.
00:26
The idea was originally Bruce Weber's.
00:30
He had been to New Orleans, and he had always wanted
00:33
to do photographs, a bigger photo essay about New Orleans,
00:39
and it really was inspired by the people
00:44
and their particular spirit,
00:47
and their sense of optimism
00:51
and can-do spirit and eccentricity,
00:54
and they're really the reason, it,
00:58
it was not to dwell on the past,
01:01
but really celebrate the present and the future.
01:05
And our, our focus was on the diversity of people
01:10
that live in New Orleans, and I think we tried
01:15
to show as many aspects of the city as we could
01:20
through its people, so that's why there's everything
01:25
from a voodoo priestess, to the president of the bank
01:29
to roller derby women, to Women of the Storm.
01:34
I mean, it's really what makes that a very unique,
01:38
and I think very special, place.
