♫ Baby, you're a firework
00:03
♫ Come on show 'em what you're worth
00:10
Hi, Poppy!
00:11
Hi, Katy!
00:14
Oh my goodness!
00:15
Look at all these things in your hands!
00:17
Can I have a Tic Tac?
00:18
Sure. Great.
00:19
You can choose any flavor you want.
00:21
Oh wow, all the choices.
00:23
I think this is definitely gonna be
00:24
one of my favorite interviews.
00:27
So you have a couple of questions for me?
00:29
Yeah, I have-- I'm really nervous actually.
00:31
(Poppy giggling)
00:32
Okay, Poppy, I wanna hear everything you have to say.
00:35
Here's question one.
00:37
Were you a music lover since you were young?
00:40
Yeah, how old are you?
00:42
Seven.
00:43
Seven, I thought you were at least nine and a half.
00:46
You look really cool and older, mature.
00:49
I started singing when I was nine years old
00:52
because my older sister,
00:54
she came home after a summer being with her godparents
00:58
who had a studio in their basement
01:00
and she recorded a song with them
01:02
and I was like, Hold up, what?
01:05
And so I started practicing that song
01:07
and I showed it to my mom
01:08
and then she got me singing lessons.
01:10
So do you have a brother or sister?
01:11
No, I am-- You're an only child?
01:14
[Poppy] Yeah.
01:15
But you have lots of friends, right?
01:16
Yeah.
01:17
And do some of your friends sing?
01:18
Not really but I sing.
01:20
You sing?
01:21
(Poppy giggling)
01:22
Oh my goodness.
01:23
This means you're starting two years before I started.
01:26
That means you're gonna be so good.
01:27
No, I actually started when I was four, actually.
01:30
Oh my gosh.
01:31
Well you've got five years on me then.
01:33
I can't wait to hear you.
01:34
I mean only if you want.
01:35
I'd love to hear you.
01:36
Wait, maybe we could do it
01:38
at the end of the interview?
01:39
If that would be okay. Okay.
01:40
Okay, next question.
01:43
How do you go about your outfits?
01:46
It means, do you dress how you feel
01:50
or how the song is,
01:51
like if the song is sad
01:53
you wear sort of bluish colors?
01:56
Actually, you're pretty much right
01:58
because whenever I wake up in the morning
02:00
I like to dress and represent exactly how I feel.
02:03
So sometimes I dress because I feel funny
02:06
and I wanna laugh a lot.
02:08
Sometimes I dress when I wanna flirt maybe with a boy
02:13
or if it's about food for instance,
02:14
I just put food all over my body.
02:16
Sorta like not really real food?
02:19
No, I put real food over my body.
02:22
Okay.
02:24
It's pretty good.
02:25
Do you like to have a lot of crazy stuff
02:29
in the background when you perform?
02:31
Like a lot of detail?
02:34
What would happen?
02:35
Okay, question, Poppy.
02:36
What if you went to my show
02:38
and it was just me on a stage and that's it?
02:41
That would be really really awkward.
02:44
Awkward.
02:45
It's basically like cake
02:47
but with no yummy frosting with a cherry on top.
02:50
I mean where's the cherry?
02:51
Where's the frosting?
02:52
You're not just gonna eat the bread.
02:54
(Poppy laughing)
02:56
Okay, fourth question.
02:58
Do you ever
03:00
have time to just hang out in your house
03:04
and be yourself?
03:05
Oh my gosh, all the time.
03:08
Sometimes it's crazier times than other
03:11
like for instance right now,
03:12
right before I'm about to put up my next record
03:15
and I'm preparing to release
03:17
all these songs I've been working on for years now.
03:19
So it's very exciting, so it's very busy
03:22
but I love staying at home,
03:25
I love watching documentaries,
03:27
and I think I can say this now for the first time
03:30
I'm always myself.
03:32
Just because I go wear crazy costumes
03:34
and I've got all this makeup on, blah blah blah.
03:36
I'm still me.
03:37
I know.
03:38
So five, do you know how to hula hoop?
03:42
I mean basically I kinda do.
03:46
I'm not that great at it but are you?
03:48
I'm pretty good.
03:49
Oh, she's good at everything.
03:51
(Poppy giggling)
03:52
What?
03:53
I can hula hoop on my arms
03:54
and then throw it up in the air
03:55
and catch it in the other arm. What?
03:57
And still be hula hooping.
03:58
Why don't you go and join a circus then?
04:03
Maybe someone needs to ask Poppy to join the circus.
04:07
Okay, okay.
04:08
Six, can you roller skate?
04:10
Holy skate, yeah!
04:13
I can roller skate backwards.
04:16
Can you roller skate backwards?
04:17
Sort of.
04:18
And then I can also crouch down,
04:20
then I can put one foot in front of me.
04:21
I actually used to go roller skating on Tuesday nights
04:24
for Christian Skate Night when I was your age.
04:27
Yeah, but it was different.
04:29
I would go there to meet friends and maybe,
04:34
talk to a boy but not at your age.
04:37
Probably I was more, 13.
04:38
That was like 13 or that was like 17.
04:41
I rollerskate in my house.
04:43
Oh, you roller skate in your house?
04:45
Yeah.
04:45
Wow, you must have a really big house.
04:47
Next question, do you like gardening?
04:51
Do I like gardening?
04:53
Oh my goodness, I do like planting things
04:55
and you know what's really fun at my house?
04:58
What?
04:58
I have a really big garden
05:00
and then I get to eat the vegetables
05:01
and if you could make a salad from your backyard,
05:03
that's the coolest thing in the world.
05:05
I literally have a deck in an area
05:08
where there's nature on the other side.
05:10
That's amazing. Basically.
05:11
And you're not scared of worms?
05:13
I'm sort of freaked out by them.
05:15
They're still a bit freaky.
05:17
They're just like,
05:18
they're sort of freaky. Yeah.
05:20
I touched,
05:21
I might touch them but they are really slimy
05:24
and they sort of freaked me out.
05:26
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
05:26
(audience laughing)
05:27
It's not like they're a butterfly
05:29
that just that land-- Well you'll never know.
05:31
Sometimes those worms-- Yeah.
05:32
They turn into butterflies, basically.
05:35
No, caterpillars.
05:36
Oh.
05:38
(Poppy giggling)
05:41
Okay, what was your favorite song when you were seven?
05:46
Ooh, that's the greatest question ever.
05:49
Honestly, it was probably something from church,
05:53
like Oh Happy Day.
05:55
♫ Oh happy day, oh happy day
05:59
♫ Oh happy day, oh hap
06:01
Do you know that one?
06:03
It's different.
06:04
Not really but--
06:04
Yeah, it's okay.
06:06
But it's pretty. Thank you.
06:08
I have a few favorite songs but one of them is by you.
06:12
By ooh?
06:13
Firework.
06:14
No way. Yeah.
06:15
Will you sing it?
06:16
I'll join you if you want me to
06:18
but you sing it first.
06:20
♫ Do you ever feel
06:21
♫ Feel so paper thin
06:23
♫ Like a house of cards
06:25
Wait, I'm not so good at it but--
06:27
That's great, that's great.
06:28
♫ One blow from cavin' in
06:30
♫ Do you ever feel already buried deep
06:34
♫ Six feet under scream
06:35
♫ But no one seems to hear a thing
06:38
♫ Do you know that there's still a chance for you
06:42
♫ 'Cause there's a spark in you
06:44
♫ You just gotta ignite the light
06:49
♫ And let it shine
06:52
♫ Just own the night
06:55
♫ Like the Fourth of July
06:59
♫ 'Cause baby you're a firework
07:03
♫ Come on show 'em what you're worth
07:07
♫ Make 'em go oh, oh, oh
07:10
♫ As you shoot across the sky-ah-ay
07:15
[Man] Amazing.
07:15
[Audience] Amazing!
07:17
(audience cheering and applauding)
07:20
[Woman] That was fantastic!
