00:07
Hey, so I just finished shooting a day of
00:10
Big Little Lies here in Malibu,
00:12
and now I'm gonna show you what I do when I'm wrapped.
00:15
It's gonna be fun.
00:16
Well, I started acting when I was four years old,
00:18
and I never really knew what I was doing.
00:20
It was just like I was playing dress up.
00:22
I've just always done acting,
00:24
and then I chose to really do it.
00:26
I'm just having fun right now.
00:28
I can't remember my very first audition,
00:29
but there are certain auditions that you never forget.
00:33
Specifically, you'll never forget auditions
00:34
where you're in the middle of a scene and you're crying
00:36
and someone comes in and knocks on the door,
00:40
interrupts the scene,
00:41
or when you're waiting in the waiting room
00:42
and they're literally offering the role to
00:44
some big star while you're auditioning for the role.
00:46
Things like that you never forget,
00:48
but you also never forget,
00:49
like, when I was auditioning for Big Little Lies,
00:50
Jean-Marc Vallée is the director,
00:52
and he said to me, he's like,
00:54
I don't think you can be mean.
00:55
And I was like, I can be mean.
00:56
I can do it.
00:57
I can totally be mean.
00:58
And he was like, Go against the wall
01:00
and I want you to flip off the camera
01:01
and I want you to show me that you can be mean.
01:03
So there's certain auditions that are really special,
01:05
and a lot of times you just learn from 'em,
01:08
but you've just gotta take 'em,
01:09
and then you gotta go boxing afterwards
01:11
and just forget they ever happened.
01:13
(upbeat rock music)
01:20
I've always kind of been into boxing,
01:21
but I started when I was like, 16.
01:24
There was a role I was testing on,
01:25
and they wanted me to go box,
01:28
and so that's kind of how it started,
01:29
and I just liked how I felt.
01:31
I felt really badass, like punching someone.
01:33
It sounds so weird, but it's really fun.
01:36
My favorite part about boxing is the focus I have to have.
01:40
It makes you clear your mind
01:41
and you're just in the moment,
01:43
so this is a place where I just am focused on one thing.
01:46
What's going through my mind when I'm in the ring is
01:47
how bad I wanna hit the other person.
01:49
You just wanna knock them out, right?
01:51
Golf and boxing are the two sports I do, right,
01:54
and they're both kind of male-driven sports,
01:56
and I play a lot with boys.
01:58
At the end of the day, it's all what you put into it is
02:00
what you get out of it.
02:02
I work out to unwind and focus on myself.
02:04
It makes me feel really good to put work in
02:06
and feel good about the work I did.
02:08
So Big Little Lies is a HBO miniseries based off a book with
02:12
Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley
02:15
and Zoe Kravitz and Laura Dern and then there's me.
02:19
It's about people who want their lives to seem perfect,
02:22
and what they'll do to make sure they seem perfect,
02:27
protecting that facade,
02:29
and my character is Abigail Carlson.
02:31
She's Madeline McKenzie's daughter, played by Reese.
02:34
Working with someone like Reese,
02:36
she's made me so much better.
02:38
I really didn't feel like I was acting.
02:40
I really felt like she was my mom.
02:42
I just did a film called Ladybird,
02:43
directed by Greta Gerwig, starring Saoirse Ronan,
02:46
and I'm a huge fan of Greta.
02:50
She's really quirky and fun and free and just really funny.
02:54
All right, so now,
02:55
we're gonna get some pie at Du-Par's.
02:59
(upbeat music)
03:02
This is where I go after, like,
03:03
it's usually at like 2 AM,
03:05
like after a long night of shooting
03:07
and nothing else is open and I get hungry,
03:08
so I always get cherry pie
03:11
because that's what you get at a diner.
03:14
Mm.
03:15
It's good.
03:18
You want some?
03:19
You can't have it, I don't share.
03:23
My favorite designers right now,
03:26
I'm obsessed with Gucci and Miu Miu.
03:29
They're like my favorite,
03:30
'cause they're kind of quirky and a little off,
03:31
and really weird.
03:33
Actually getting to wear designers that I love, dream.
03:37
And have pie.
03:40
Pie and Miu Miu.
03:42
And now I'm really tired and I'm gonna go to sleep
03:43
and go to work tomorrow.
03:45
Bye.
03:48
The best part about working with Greta was that one day,
03:50
she wanted everyone to write their spirit animals,
03:52
and we're both poodles.
