They were doing a nationwide search
for Maddie Ross in True Grit.
And so we looked into it.
It was right before Christmas break.
So, I ended up getting an audition.
I went in three times, within a week
I found myself on set with the Cohen brothers.
If I had to make that movie right now
I'd be incredibly intimidated, but
when I was 13 I thought I was like,
you should be intimidated of me.
Craziest part about that whole experience
was it all happened in one year.
We shot the movie, it came out, we ran the award circuit.
I'll never forget getting ready for the Oscars,
I was shaking.
But walking that massive carpet,
was just absolutely surreal.
Oh my god, that's one of my favorites.
Very emotional when I watch that movie.
That was from my mamma.
Honestly the middle part, straight hair,
was my thing for awhile, and every time
I do that, I'm like, oh hey yeah, my girl, what's up?
My first kiss was actually on screen,
which I don't consider my first kiss.
It was a student thesis graduate film,
called She's a Fox, and I had to kiss two guys in it.
So that was a lot for me.
I went from kissing one boy, to kissing another,
and the guy was 11 or 12.
Yeah, I was nervous, I didn't know what to do.
One of the guys, I love him,
he was shorter than me, they had
to place him on an apple box, so I was feeling like...
I didn't know how to feel about that.
It was very awkward.
One of them made a comment about,
I'm just gonna pretend I'm kissing my mom.
Pretty sure that's not the thing
you say before you kiss a girl, but alright, whatever,
I'm gonna pretend like I'm kissing my dog, whatever.
First real kiss was at my house
that I grew up in, by my front door.
Which kind of sucks, 'cause every time
I walk through my front door, I think about him.
It was a little messy, but you know.
I'm pretty sure I looked at him, and I was like,
no, no, you can do better.
I said something that...
It was me that time, that was like,
that's not what you're supposed to say.
But I did it.
Well I'm about to turn 20.
Now I don't have any plans, but I'm
excited about that, maybe something
will happen last minute.
I really wanna go to Disneyland.
'Cause I'm turning 20, and who wouldn't
wanna go to Disneyland on their 20th birthday?
My song, Starving, is currently out right now.
I was driving and I heard it two times, in one day.
It's so crazy, I feel like hearing
it in the car is when it's like,
for me anyway, that's when it hits me.
Probably at the 405.
Just driving around, driving to meetings, and stuff.
When you're in a car, and you look
around and think the possibility of
all these people around me listening to
the same station, hearing my song,
is just insane, just the thought of it.
It's just a dream come true.
