I'm pretty proud of my performance as Toto
00:06
in the Wizard of Oz, I fought really hard for that part too,
00:09
I went to summer camp, theater summer camp,
00:12
and we were doing the Wizard of Oz
00:13
and I really wanted to be Toto,
00:15
and I remember going home before the night of auditions
00:19
and telling my parents I'm gonna audition for Toto
00:22
and they were so angry at me that they were sending me
00:24
to summer camp and I was gonna be the dog.
00:27
The costume was like pajamas, onesie, and like spots on it
00:32
and I painted my face and wore
00:35
a headband with ears, I think.
00:37
I must have been probably like 12, 13, not super young.
00:42
I was definitely conscious of my choice to be Toto,
00:46
that's who I wanted to be, very much so.
00:48
Superheroes were always a part of my life
00:51
and my childhood, I didn't read the comic books
00:53
but I played with the action figures and I dressed up
00:56
as them and I played pretend all the time
00:59
and I was really big into Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
01:04
I feel like I always loved Donatello.
01:07
He was the purple one and he had
01:09
the stick that he fought with.
01:11
That was kind of it for me, I don't think that my choice
01:14
of liking Donatello was based off
01:16
of personality traits or anything.
01:19
When you audition for big tentpole movies like SpiderMan
01:24
or whatever, they give you these really incredibly generic
01:29
one or twopage scenes with really generic dialogue
01:33
where they change all the characters' names
01:36
so you have no idea who you're talking to,
01:39
you barely know what character you're playing
01:42
and you don't know what's happened before or after
01:45
or really what's happening during the scene.
01:47
The entire way that I at least was taught how to act
01:51
goes out the window and I don't even know
01:53
what they're looking for when you do them,
01:55
except for maybe how you look on camera.
01:58
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets,
02:00
I didn't have to audition, I got a call saying
02:03
that Luc Besson wanted to meet with me
02:05
and I got to pick the place we met
02:08
and I really had no idea what it was for so I just picked
02:10
a brunch spot like a block from my apartment,
02:14
sat down and we were eating some eggs
02:16
and he started telling me about this movie
02:18
that he's wanted to make his entire life and going on and on
02:21
about it and it sounded just epic and amazing.
02:24
We got done with the meeting and he sent me the script
02:26
and I called him up and I was like,
02:27
"Wow, this script is amazing and it's so much fun,
02:30
"and I love The Fifth Element and I would love to work
02:33
"with you on this," and I remember his just saying,
02:36
"Oh I'm so happy, I'm so happy," over and over again,
02:40
but I didn't know what that meant exactly,
02:44
I didn't know if I'm so happy meant,
02:46
"I also want you to be in this" or what
02:49
so I was like calling my agents, my managers,
02:51
and being like, "I think I'm in this movie."
02:54
But in the end, it all worked.
02:56
I was carded yesterday, yeah.
02:58
Just went to Miami with my sister and we ordered
03:00
a nice bottle of wine and I had to get my ID
03:03
and I always have to remember to bring my wallet.
03:06
If I don't bring my wallet, it can be a huge bummer.
03:09
In college, when I was like 20 years old
03:12
and people would be going out to eat
03:15
and the would all be able to drink, they wouldn't invite me
03:18
because they knew that I would get carded
03:21
which means they would all get carded,
03:23
which means they wouldn't be able to drink.
03:25
It's been like a year since I've been carded
03:27
at a rated R movie, though.
03:29
They do it sometimes, trust me.
03:33
I had a cinematic crush on Gwyneth Paltrow.
03:36
I was probably a teenager when Shakespeare In Love came out.
03:40
Super cool, super beautiful.
03:42
There was this girl that I had a huge crush on
03:44
in high school and she wouldn't date me for the longest time
03:48
and then she finally decided to date me
03:51
and she was probably like my first meaningful kiss.
03:55
Might have been at her house.
03:57
And we kept kissing for weeks after, so yeah.
04:02
The first time I saw Philip Seymour Hoffman,
04:04
I think it was in Talented Mr. Ripley
04:06
when he jumps out of the red Corvette,
04:09
that was really the moment where I was like,
04:11
"Oh wow, that guy, what he's doing is different
04:15
"than what almost everyone else is doing."
04:18
And I don't know what that is,
04:20
but that's what I wanna try to achieve when I act.
