Best of the Swarovski Collective

Ever since Alexander McQueen and Isabella Blow incorporated Swarovski crystals in their 1999 collection, the signature stones have been a mainstay on the runways. Here we take a look at the most striking crystallized spring 2013 looks from designers like Rodarte, Altuzarra, and Mary Katrantzou.

The idea of using crystals kind of
00:20
came hand in hand with the inspiration.
00:23
We kind of manipulated in so many different ways.
00:27
Became almost like an exercise in style.
00:29
This is my first time working with Swarovski.
00:32
We've come up with incredible textures
00:34
and effects that really give them a richness
00:37
that you don't often find in spring.
00:40
For the spring summer collection we're working
00:42
with utilitarian influences basically,
00:45
especially in combination with Swarovski.
00:47
It just feels newer.
00:48
It just feels fresh
00:49
and you know it's not like
00:51
red carpet dressing.
00:52
It's my kind of glamour.
00:56
This collection was based really around the idea of
00:59
taking femininity to their most extreme.
01:02
Just in terms of working with the elements
01:04
makes everything so much more substantial
01:06
and big and intense and not just an embellishment.
01:21
Bouqueted is a whole new world for me to explore
01:24
and the integration with crystals really
01:27
makes it very unique and we felt that that integration
01:31
with the crystal mesh was a lot more natural.
01:36
You know it's such a traditional and classic material
01:39
that I like to always present it
01:42
in a way that tells a story
01:44
but do it in a way that was more playful
01:47
and has a little bit of a movement to it.
01:54
I like the idea of them doing crystals smashed.
01:57
Not that we've smashed the crystals.
01:58
They've been worked very nicely to kind of
02:01
give the illusion of that.
02:02
We're in our 14th or 15th season of working with crystals.
02:05
They're an essential part to the whole collection
02:08
and they're kind of really the icing on the cake for these
02:10
really super special pieces.
02:13
It's time to actually bring back
02:15
this timeless elegance again to the world of fashion.
02:21
We've been using Swarovski since our first show.
02:23
And they have really been intrinsic
02:25
in fostering younger talent.
02:28
From the very beginning they've supported us through,
02:30
like we've had a really long amazing history with them.
