'Nothing Left Unsaid' is a documentary film
00:08
that I'm executive producer of,
00:10
it's directed by Liz Garbus.
00:11
It's a story about my mom Gloria Vanderbilt
00:13
and it's kind of a look back at her life.
00:15
She's been famous, now,
00:17
longer than pretty much anyone alive today.
00:20
She was born in 1924 and from the time of her birth
00:23
has been making headlines,
00:25
and often not of her own choosing.
00:28
At 92 she's incredibly self-reflective
00:31
and incredibly kind of willing and able to go
00:33
and look back at things in a way that she never has before.
00:36
It's very much a kind of a conversation,
00:38
I think a lot of younger people would like to
00:40
have with an aging parent.
00:41
I've been interested in my mom's story
00:43
since I was a teenager,
00:44
she's had a storage unit and I've been going through it
00:47
for probably 20-something years,
00:49
I mean it's enormous.
00:52
And you open up one box and it's
00:54
a box of letters from her Aunt
00:55
Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, who created the Whitney museum
00:58
and letters from Howard Hughes, who my mom was dating.
01:01
I've also been recording my mom
01:03
and interviewing her over the years
01:04
from the time I was a teenager,
01:06
even before I knew I wanted to be a reporter
01:08
I would shoot interviews with her.
01:09
I literally just turned over dozens of boxes
01:11
to Liz Garbus, the director.
01:13
I wanted to make a film that kinda revealed
01:16
who my mom is and what she's like.
01:19
It's the first time she's been on camera without makeup,
01:22
it's the first time she's allowed herself to be
01:25
followed around and documented like this.
01:27
It's very unvarnished and honest
01:29
and that's what she wanted.
